Ronald H. Ballou is Professor of Operations, Weatherhead School of

Management, Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio,

U.S.A. Dr. Ballou received B.M.E., M.B.A., and Ph.D. degrees in the

areas of engineering and business administration, majoring in business

logistics, from The Ohio State University. He has published over 50

articles in professional logistics journals and is the author of Business

Logistics/Supply Chain Management (5^th edition, Prentice Hall) and

Basic Business Logistics (2^nd edition, Prentice Hall). He also has

developed computer software (NETWORK) for locating facilities in

logistics networks, used widely by companies throughout the world.

Professor Ballou has been a consultant to many companies on

logistics matters, especially in the area of logistics network design.
